Today would have been my Mum & Dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary, unfortunately my Dad passed away in Oct 2000 so he isn’t here to celebrate it with my Mum. I thought it would be nice to have her over my house for the afternoon, she brought over her wedding album to look through. The first thing that astounds me is that even though the box and the cover is a little beaten up from people looking at it and it being moved from house to house, the photos are still in really good condition. There are no plastic covers on the photos whatsoever, they are just matt photos stuck onto the page. You can tell that plenty of people have seen this album or that it’s been looked at time and again!
I love the way my Mum who must’ve seen this dozens if not hundreds of times, still smiles going through it and laughs at my dad’s face when confetti is being thrown at them. She only wishes that there more photos of her family, especially her Mum and Dad. There are no photos of her Dad because he was at the dog races, for some long forgotten reason he didn’t get on with my Dad and didn’t come! Can you imagine!?!
What really touches me about this album, this record of a very special day in my parents lives is that I’m sharing it with you, sharing it with my family, my wife and my daughters. This happy eventful day will live on through me showing it to you today. So I urge all of you that have your wedding photos just living on your hard drives or on a DVD, please get something tangible, something that you can feel, laugh at and cry over time and again.
I shall finish this off by saying I’m equally as guilty for not having an album too but after today I promise you Louise (My wife) we will have an album that our children and their children can look at too. I hope we have as many wonderful years and be as happy as my Mum and Dad. Tx
